The 2012 IHRSA event in Los Angeles provided the opportunity for over 160 Australian fitness industry participants to head stateside and hear from a variety of industry leaders representing the global fitness industry. Held at the Los Angeles Convention Centre in the dynamic LA Live precinct, the 2012 event shone a spotlight on the modern industry and provided the opportunity to learn about new ideas, emerging trends and the continued evolution of our ever-changing industry.

Importantly IHRSA 2012 was also an opportunity for the Australian delegates to be reminded that as far as fitness industry conventions go... Australia punches well above ..

Experience Solutions - Customer Journey Map.pdf

Thought this was a really interesting graphic representation of the experience of a fitness industry customer providing perspectives from all parties.

Would be an interesting discussion if we feel this is accurate and if there are alternative customer experience maps out there being used to guide our staff?

  • Fitness Australia - Cairns Road Trip

    Written by Andrew / on 02/24/2012 / 0 Comments

This week I was fortunate enough to escape the office and brave the occasional torrential rain and consistently stifling humidity in Queensland's tropical North.

While there I hosted a health and fitness industry forum and attendees included representatives from the FNQ Rural Division of General Practice, Cairns Public Health Unit, Cairns Regional Council, Apunipima Health Service and of course the local fitness industry. The afternoon featured some healthy discussion and it was apparent that a strong desire exists in the area for greater stakeholder engagement within the broader health sector.

A huge thanks to Tropical North Queensland Tafe for hosting this ..

  • Fitness Australia - Southern Queensland Road-Trip

I tend to live by the mantra that states, ‘time in the office is wasted' and as such I relish the opportunity to visit facilities and speak to fitness business owners and staff across Queensland. It's fantastic to be able to speak to people in facilities, large and small and gain an insight into each individual business and the issues they face on a day to day basis. Similarly it's an opportunity for me to discuss some of Fitness Australia's current initiatives, gain feedback and also talk about how those initiatives are intended to assist both the individual business, as well ..

  • Can technology give you your life (& business) back?

    Written by Robert / on 01/10/2011 / 5 Comments

Most conversations here and in our industry connection Australia-wide tend to focus on technical standards for fitness and exercise. When we are having those regular conversations about how we (Fitness Australia) can support a fitness business it is almost entirely about "sales & marketing". Not having enough time to work on the business (as opposed to 'in' the business) is a well worn road among many exercise professionals running their own businesses.

In this 21st Century information age I wonder where all the conversations are about the applications of modern technology in fitness businesses?

Mobile technology is changing the ..

  • FAQ's | Federal Court ruling on Copyright Tribunal decision

Please find below some common questions being asked from the Federal Court ruling on 13 December. Please add to these questions and we will endeavour to answer them correctly.

    1.    What was the basis for the Appeal of the Tribunal decision?

On 17 May 2010, the Copyright Tribunal approved the introduction of a new Licence Scheme for the use of protected sound recordings in group exercise classes. This Licence Scheme is administered by the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA). This determination followed an application to the Tribunal by PPCA to which Fitness Australia was joined as a party. These ..

  • Competing for business…or cooperating for industry growth?

Like most regions across Australia, the Geelong fitness industry is keen to play an active role in affecting change in the health of the local community and to be recognised for the delivery of professional and consistently high quality fitness services.

What makes the businesses and professionals in Geelong unique however, is their willingness to work together - they're not focused on fear of giving away their trade secrets, but rather on sharing ideas and solutions that will have the industry as a whole grow and become more effective in promoting physical activity to the public.

Proactive local businesses and professionals ..
